Inspiration for my artwork comes from my love of animals.  I have always had this love for animals as far back as I can remember so it seemed to be the right decision to use them for subject matter.   I also like to paint landscapes and people.  With the commissioned work I do use oil pastel with coloured pencil.  Oil pastel is a challenging medium, with its dense waxy base it cannot be applied with a brush unless diluted.  Without a brush to rely on for application I have had to devise other means of application to a surface building up thin layers  and sometimes using sgraffito techniques to scratch through thickly built layers to add texture and reveal colours beneath.  I strive to capture the look of the animal as well as it's personality.
